Writing On Black Tape by Michelle W. – Chapter Eight
Chapter 8 – Meeting Vincent
âI thought I was going to die so I just imagined, hoped for something that would kill her quickly and let me live. A small bottle popped into my hands, I popped the lid off, whatever it was, it burned me. But I got the urge to stick it down her throat, donât ask me how I knew to do that, but I did,â Beth said in reply.
âWow, thatâs amazing, it was quite the battle. But you were right, everything can die. We made a lot of money off of that too, there was all kinds of people there, of course, only people who knew about the war,â Chelsea said.
Beth started to doze off, âGlad you did.â
Chelsea grinned, âSo am I. I guess I know whose side your on.â
Beth shook her head, âNo you donât. Iâm on my own side.â
As Bethâs eyes dropped she heard Chelsea laughing. This time when Beth awoke she looked over to the side and saw a guy. He had dark brown hair that curled and hung down to his cheeks. He had hazel brown eyes and was very tanned. Beth looked at him and sat up slowly, âWhoâŚwho are you?â
The guy smiled, âMy name is Vincent.â
Beth winced and held her stomach, âWhy are you here?â
âBe careful, donât sit up to fastâŚ.You could hurt yourself,â he said.
Beth sighed, âYou didnât answer my question. And donât worry about me, I am fine.â
Vincent sighed, âI go to the same school as youâŚI just havenât talked to you, I have been watching you though. After that fightâŚI couldnât retain myself, I had to come and see you.â
Beth was completely confused, âWhy?â
âYouâre cute and strong. What you did to herâŚwas justâŚamazing,â he said.
Beth laughed then coughed, âOw. So, youâre like a fan of mine?â
He nodded, âYeaâŚyou could say that.â
âWhy? Donât you know anything about me?â
He nodded, âEverything.â
Bethâs eyes widened, âHow so?â
âI amâŚChelseaâs cousinâŚ.She talks to me a lotâŚand tells me everything.â Vincent replied.
Beth sighed, âI didnât know that.â
Vincent stood up and walked over to Beth, âCan IâŚcan I see your bandages?â
Beth pulled her shirt up, over the bandages and looked at her stomach, âSure.â
He looked at the bandages over her stomach, âThat looks soâŚpainful.â
Beth nodded, âIt is.â
Vincent sighed, âSomeone like youâŚshouldnât be in so much pain.â
Beth smiled, âYou seem pretty nice.â
Vincent smiled, âThanks.â
âOkay, please tell me that they wonât allow Jill in to see me? In this weakened stateâŚwellâŚshe could definitely take me out,â Beth said with a frown.
Vincent shrugged, âI have no ideaâŚbut I can ask the doctorsâŚabout Jill and I can try toâŚget them to not allow her toâŚcome inside.â
Beth smiled, âThanks. When are they going to let me out?â
âSometime next week,â Vincent said.
Beth closed her eyes, âThanks.â
Vincent pulled her shirt back down over her stomach and sat back down, âYour welcome.â
Beth fell asleep. The next week went by quickly. Vincent was in her room every other day, and when he wasnât in there, Chelsea was. Once the week was over, Beth went back to the Tervalâs home. Chelsea was at her side and helped her in. Beth looked at Chelsea, âWhat did you tell them?â
âTell who what?â Chelsea asked.
âWhat did you tell the Tervals? I havenât seen them at all since I wasâŚsince the fight,â Beth said as she sat herself down on the couch.
âThat you were at my house, and according to the school, youâve been there all week,â Chelsea smiled as she said this.
Bethâs eyes widened, âBut how? Did you hack into the schoolâs main frame?â
Chelsea laughed, âI told you that you have people watching your back. There are people who know about the war but arenât involved. The Tervals donât know about the war but they were instructed to keep away from you. They are being paid to ignore you.â
Beth sighed, âWow. So there are millions of people, watching and waiting to see whose side Iâll be on?â
Chelsea nodded and sat down beside her, âYep. You are one important girl. Like I have been saying, you must choose a side.â
Beth sighed, âIâm not on anybodyâs side.â
Chelsea looked at Beth and poked her stomach, âYou have to choose a side.â
Beth winced and cried out in pain, âDonât touch my stomach.â
Chelsea rolled her eyes, âCry baby.â
Beth inhaled deeply and out, âI am not. Youâre not the one who had surgery done to most of their inner organs.â
âYouâre part demon, that shouldnât have hurt that badly,â Chelsea said. A knock on the door and Chelsea went to the door and opened it, âHi Vincent.â
Beth groaned, âChelsea that doesnât matter. That just pretty much fuels my anger. And it gives me extra strength, it doesnât make me invincible.â
Vincent slowly walked inside, âHi Beth.â
Chelsea rolled her eyes, âVincent, tell Beth that she has to choose a side and soon.â
Vincent sat down beside Beth and nodded slowly, âIâm sorry BethâŚbut you need to choose one soonâŚ.And it canât just be what you think is rightâŚthe decision must be made from your heart.â
Beth sighed, âI donât want to choose a side though. And you know that Vincent.â
Chelsea rolled her eyes, âVincent donât get soft of her, you need to tell her, to make her choose a side.â
Vincent looked down, âBethâŚyou need toâŚitâs as simple as thatâŚyou canâtâŚyou canât remain neutral forever.â
Beth stood up, âI can and I will.â
Chelsea pushed Beth down onto the couch, âYou need to choose and you will soon. You still need to take care of Jill.â
âYou want to put me in another fight?â Beth asked, becoming amazed.
Vincent nodded, âShe insist that youâŚand Jill fightâŚJill wants you dead anyways.â
Chelsea looked at the door, âVincent, you need to leave.â
Beth frowned, âWhy?â
Vincent nodded, âYea, why?â
Chelsea glared at Vincent, âCousin, itâs time you leave. Beth has important friends coming over.â
Vincent stood up and looked at Beth sadly, âIâm sorry BethâŚIâll be backâŚover when I can.â
Beth sighed, âBye Vincent and thanks again for staying with me while I was in the hospital.â
Vincent left, âAnytime.â
Beth glared at Chelsea, âOkay, why did you make him leave so fast?â
Chelsea laughed, âYou still havenât figured it out yet?â
âFigured what out yet?â Beth asked as she looked at Chelsea.
âWhy hasnât Nathaniel or Daniel or Gary came to see you? Think about what I told you a while ago,â Chelsea grinned as she looked out of the door way.
âNathaniel hates me because I killed Angel and Gary hates me because I killed Joanne and Daniel just doesnât know what to think about me,â Beth replied as she looked away.
âWrong. Itâs because of Vincent,â Chelsea replied.
âVincent? Why him? Heâs just a why guy who is really sweet and nice and a good listener,â Beth said with a smile.
Chelsea laughed, âSatan really has fooled you.â
âYea right, Satan is still wherever he lives,â Beth said.
Chelsea shook her head, âI told you that Satan can go into human form. Heâs trying to get close to you and make you choose his side. Heâs manipulating you. He knows that Iâm going to tell you at one point.â
âSo why are you telling me this now?â Beth asked.
âBecause I just wanted to see what youâd do,â Chelsea said, âPlus I bet that your sad because Nathaniel hasnât came to see you yet.â
Beth looked away, âIâm not sad. I donât need him at all.â
Chelsea laughed, âYouâre funny Beth.â
Beth frowned, âWhatever Chelsea.â
Chelsea smiled, âWell I managed to convince Nathaniel to come over here so you canât hate me too much and too badly.â
Bethâs eyes widened as she looked at Chelsea, âHow and why did you do that?â
âI thought you deserved a break plus there is bound to be drama between you and him,â Chelsea said as she waved someone in, âCome on in Nathaniel, Gary and Daniel.â
The boys walked in slowly. Daniel looked at Beth and said, âHow are you doing?â
Beth looked at Nathaniel who looked away from her, âAs good as can be expected. Angel was strong. I thought I was a goner.â
Gary stood in the door way and Daniel nodded, âWe all thought you were going to die.â
Gary frowned, âYou cheated.â
Beth ignored Garyâs comment and kept looking at Nathaniel, âChelsea told me that Vincent is Satan in his human form, is that why you guys didnât visit?â
Nathaniel nodded and Daniel said, âIt was quite the fight. None of us quite know what to do but everyone is waiting for you to choose which side your on. Of course pretty much everyone thinks that you are going on Satanâs side. But Nathaniel and I are still hoping that you choose Godâs side and give him the upper hand. He wants to let us humans be free. He could take away your demon and your pain. He could give you a new life, a better life.â
Beth looked away, âTaking my demon away would be taking part of me away. And giving me a new life wouldnât do anything good. I just want to not be part of this war. I donât want everybody eyeing me and expecting me to choose a side. I donât want anything like that. Why canât I just disappear and not be part of this war. Why was I chosen?â
Nathaniel looked at Beth angrily, âBecause you were supposed to be a pure soul. If Satan hadnât put that damned demon in you then you wouldnât be put through this mess. You should just kick that demon out of you so you can choose the right side, so you can be pure and good again.â
Beth glared at Nathaniel, âDo you got a problem with me or something?â
Nathaniel nodded, âYes I do. You might as well as go to their side. You stopped yourself from killing me but for how long. You have killed an angel, Joanne and David and all in the process of a few days. I loved you but not anymore. All youâve done is cause me pain.â
Beth looked away, âI guess Iâll choose now then. You obliviously see no point for me. I guess I should just go evil and end all of this stress.â
Everyoneâs eyes widened, âWhat? But, I didnât mean that I wanted you to choose his side,â Nathaniel said.
Beth looked at Chelsea, âHow do I choose Satan? How do I get this done and over with?â
Gary looked at Beth then at Chelsea, âHow would she know?â
âJust kiss Vincent and toda,â Chelsea said with a grin.
Beth looked away, âYou were right Chelsea. Nathaniel got me to choose him and you wanted me to choose him all along so your right.â
All eyes turned to Chelsea as she frowned, âWhy did you have to tell them that?â
âWell you had tricked them as did Joanne, since Iâm going on Satanâs side, I might as well as ruin you. All I need to do is kill Jill so that I wonât have any problems when I rule earth as the queen,â Beth said as she sighed.
Nathaniel looked at Beth, âI didnât say that to make you go to him. I want you to choose freely.â
Beth looked away, âWell you made me go to him, you gave up on me.â
Gary and Daniel looked at Chelsea, âPlease say that she is lieing.â
Beth laughed, âCanât do that boys. Beth never hurt me, never did anything like that to me. I went in that room freely and then Jill turned me into this. Jill is very strong, Joanneâs job was to make Beth choose Satan but she failed unlike me.â
Gary tackled Chelsea, âHow dare you lie to us!!!â
Daniel sighed, âThis all so weird.â
Nathaniel sighed and stare at the floor, âThis sucks.â
Beth stood up, âYou guys drove me to it. Chelsea, where can I find Satan?â
Chelsea pushed Gary off of her, âSure. My house, after all we are âcousinsâ as you know.â
Gary tackled Chelsea down again, âYou betrayed God and all of us.â
Daniel stood up and looked up, âI tried in my human form, it completely failed. She just wasnâtâŚdidnât want to be on my side.â
Everyone froze and looked at Daniel, âHuh?â Chelsea asked.
Danielâs skin began to glow, âI went as a human to search for her, for Bethany Mc Roa. I refused to sway her to anyoneâs side. Yes I knew about you Chelsea, I just hoped that you would quit while you were ahead.â
Chelsea pushed Gary off of her and ran out of the house. Beth just looked at Daniel, âSo thatâs why you were so calm but always believed in me?â
Nathaniel stared at Daniel and swallowed hard, âIâm sorry God. I didnât mean toâŚI justâŚIâm sorry.â
Gary ran after Chelsea. Daniel nodded, âThere is good in your heart and you were destined to join the war in the end. Satan just tainted your soul and ruined it. You were in a bad position and he knew it so he used it to his advantage.â
Beth looked away and stood up, âJust because you turned out to be god doesnât mean that Iâll choose you. You left me when I needed you most. Satan hasnât. He has been there for me since the beginning.â
Nathaniel glared at Beth, âDonât talk to God like that!!â
Daniel looked at Nathaniel, âItâs okay Nathaniel. Let her be. She just doesnât fully understand. Maybe she was the wrong one to put my faith, and everyoneâs fate into her hands.â
Beth nodded and swallowed hard, âYes, I was the wrong one. You put me in the worst situation, you practically gave me to Satan.
Nathaniel sighed, âBut GodâŚshe has no right to talk to you like that.â
Daniel sighed, âItâs fine Nathaniel. You have been a great warrior and I am proud to have fought at your side.â
Beth glared at him, âYou did it to me. If you wanted me bad enough you would have interfered. You would have done something for me, to me, you would have protected me from him. Itâs all your fault.â
Daniel sighed, âI didnât want to force you to do anything. I wanted your choice to be pure.â
Bethâs eyes went over black, âYou are a fake God. You never cared,â she then looked toward the door and screamed at the top of her lungs, âVINCENT!!!!â
Nathaniel glared at Beth, âGod does care. He didnât want to force you to do anything. He wanted your choice to be a pure one.â
Vincent appeared at the door, âYes my dear?â
Daniel stared at Vincent, âHello, Satan.â
Vincent smiled and walked up to Beth, âI guess you know about me already and about Daniel?â
Nathaniel glared at Beth, âI thought you were above this.â
Bethâs eyes clouded over in pain as she looked at Nathaniel and said softly, âYou drove me to this.â
Daniel nodded, âYes, she does. Thanks to Chelsea.â
Vincent smiled, âGood olâ Jill. She did good.â
Beth looked at Vincent, âHow come you chose me? How come you wonât take Jill as yourâŚwhatever it is that I will be if I do officially choose you.â
Vincent smiled, âIsnât it oblivious? Not only are you prettier but your stronger, more decisive and just more destroyed than her.â
âDestroyed?â Beth asked.
Vincent nodded, âYes. More hurt and have more pain inside of you. You were born evil, you have it in your soul.â
Beth stared at the floor, âThis is all so confusing. You destroyed my life. You pinned everyone against me, all so that I would go on your side?â
Vincent nodded, âYes that is true. And it has worked.â
Nathaniel growled, âYou made her evil. She should be good and not a killer. She has a good heart, she is beautiful and the most wonderful person in the world but you hurt her. How could you do that to her?â
Vincent laughed, âEasily. I wanted her on my side.â
Beth plopped on the floor, âAnd I canât remain neutral.â
Daniel nodded, âYou have to choose and soon or else you will die and itâll fall onto another girl.â
Vincent shrugged, âDoesnât matter to me. I can easily manipulate the next girl to be on my side. Itâll just be another ruined soul that you ruined and if you choose God, then Iâll do it anyways. I can hurt you humans forever. If you choose God then that just means he has the upper hand and can destroy the humans that I use. Itâll make it harder for me to do what I do best. But this war will never end.â
Nathaniel looked at Daniel, âWhat does he mean?â
Daniel nodded, âHeâs right. It never will. Good cannot exist without evil and evil cannot exist without good. We justâŚuse you humans to give ourselves points.â
Nathaniel frowned, âYou use us too?! You donât care about us!?â
Daniel shook his head, âI do care about you guys. But you guys are just humans. We rule your world right now.â
âAnd we always will,â Vincent said with a grin.
Beth stood up and slapped Daniel then Vincent who grabbed hold of her wrist, âYou guys are a bunch of jerks.â
Vincent grinned, âThank you. But now I make your choice for you,â he then forcefully kissed her.
Daniel rubbed his cheek, âOuch.â
Beth tried to pull back but couldnât, her skin began to turn gray. Nathaniel stood up and tackled Vincent but it was too late, Bethâs skin had already turned fully gray. Beth wiped her mouth, âHuh? Where am I? What is a human doing here!?â
Vincent grinned and shoved Nathaniel to a wall, âToo late human. Sheâs gone. Her human self is gone.â
Daniel closed his eyes and disappeared. Beth turned her head to the side and started to move her head in robotic like ways, âNo Nathaniel is goodâŚNo we must kill him.â
Vincent glared at Beth and held a knife to Nathanielâs neck, âHuman Beth leave and Iâll let him live peacefully but you must come with me willingly and help me destroy those that god uses.â
âNo hurting Nathaniel? If we doâŚIâll fight her and itâll be ruined,â Beth said slowly.
Nathanielâs eyes widened as he watched Beth fight within herself. Vincent nodded and dropped Nathaniel and threw the knife outside, âSee, no, none. Gone.â
Beth stopped moving in robotic movements and sounded like herself, âOkay. Deal. The demon thing that you did to me, it wonât ruin me. I will be yours willingly.â
Satan grinned and grabbed Beth by the waist and walked out of the house, âThis is the beginning of the end.â
